Who really has time to carefully craft their meals into a perfectly balanced diet these days, when that glorious quarter pounder is just so attractive? I guess if you have your own dietician or personal chef. ;-P For most of us who are always on-the-go (and hands-on mom), it’s hard to take all the necessary nutrients our body needs that we sometimes rely on what’s accessible and fast. Ok you may argue that I’m probably too lazy to pack my own lunch (haha) Even if it’s a Rachel Ray-like weekend and you packed all the healthiest, nurtient-densed meals for your family, the number one enemy is always time to even eat. So when we’re all bagged down and stressed out we resort to the magic pill our mothers used to nag us about- “Drink your multivitamins”!!!
It was just last year, when I heard the word “vegetable” capsules and “non-acidic” vitamins, from family and friends. Researched and found out that some vitamins from grocery stores and drugstores are “synthetic” / processed and the plastic in the capsules were said to come from a synthetic factory in China without rigid manufacturing license and strict certifications! (I wouldn’t really mention brands here.) But just like processed food, they could cause serious health issues. Are you currently wasting your money from these vitamins?
“Just like refined foods, these refined vitamins have been robbed of all of the extra accessory nutrients that they naturally come with as well. In turn, like refined foods, they can create numerous problems and imbalances in your body if taken at high levels for long periods of time. They can also act more like drugs in your body, forcing themselves down one pathway or another. At the very least, they won’t help you as much as high quality food and food-based supplements. Isolated vitamins are partial vitamins, combined with other chemicals. They’re a low-end alternative to whole, real complete food.” More info here
So why be very careful? Because #1, retailers and suppliers don’t really care about our health, they only care about the money.
I always love to bear this in mind. So when someone in the family would tease me of being too “OC” (obsessive compulsive )on these details and discourage me to ask, to pry and research, I would always remember this- these manufacturers don’t really care. Your life and your family’s is at stake here if you don’t read your labels carefully.
3 Things to bear in mind when choosing a supplement:
1. Ingredients should be natural and must come from whole food. (Should prominently be shown in the label)
2. Product has gone through quality control, and mention it excessively in the label!
A manufacturer needs to voluntarily submit to exhaustive and even costly auditing in their process to achieve certifications. This is very important. What’s worst is believing a product when it’s not even meeting industry standards. Don’t take anything for granted when it comes to health. Every details is worth the attention. Look for important seals as well (Is it BFAD approved, USDA organic etc etc)
3. No additives and preservatives are added in the product
Source of Life – Gold Liquid Review
I haven’t been drinking vitamins for almost 2 years now due to the lack of options here in the Philippines. The last time I was regularly taking some complete A-Z type of vitamin pill, I was pregnant. So when I saw this at Healthy Options-I was so overjoyed!! Concentrated WHOLE FOOD…. finally!! And there’s probiotic content too! We don’t have to gulp all those nasty sugar in Nestle yougarts and Yakult. Actually the person in front of me was hoarding a lot of these so I asked the saleslady about the product. Healthy Options salesladies are always helpful and informative, they would carefully explain all the details. The vitamins come in tablet and liquid form. The lady said its great to take them in liquid form for easy absorption of the body. It’s their bestseller.
Recently I’ve been on my 3rd bottle and decided to share this awesome product. Great packaging, yummy fruity flavor (It’s still hard to comprehend there’s no sugar in it but it does taste yummy! Things I like about it.

As a dietary supplement take two tablespoons daily or one 30ml capful. Keep in the fridge once opened.
It’s quite expensive. But if you come to think of it, the ingredients are natural and organic. Also you can see it’s certified. (Php 1,300++ , I couldn’t quite remember)
What I don’t like about it:
The liquid spills haha from the cap. Or maybe it’s just me. I am meditating on getting a vitamin dropper like my baby’s.
Since I’m really not that into multivitamins, as some experts would claim high amounts is bad for your health, I would recommend this if you need a short term BOOST of energy, this is the healthiest option you can have! What I love about it is- it’s organic, it’s from whole food, chemical and preservatives-free. If you have the spare cash to spend on over-the-counter vitamins, better add just a few bucks for whole, natural and safe one such as this.
